Pepsi Partners with Copa90

We're excited to announce that Copa90 has partnered with Pepsi for a global campaign to celebrate 'super fandom' around football, leveraging our network of Creators and Fan Contributors around the globe. The project also involves partnership with our friends at Bleacher Report. 

Over 150 pieces of content on the UEFA Champions League will be created and distributed by Copa90 and Bleacher Report in the build-up to each match night across the social platforms and channels that matter to football fans. The content will include superfan stories in the form of videos uncovering why their club means so much to them; superfan emoji predictions, Pepsi GIF reactions and goal animations; and superfan shots. 

James Kirkham, head of Copa90, said: "The result of this collaboration is a football format done differently. Shots of content which hit you between the eyes, stopping an audience from mindless scrolling. Everything arresting and not a moment lost.”

We're pleased to announce today a major new investment in Bigballs Media from Turner International.

Tom Thirlwall, chief executive of Bigballs Media, says: “Our ambition is to be the world’s most influential football media business by the time the 2018 World Cup kicks off and this investment and partnership with Turner is a decisive step towards making that a reality.

“We had significant interest in our investment round but Turner was by far and away the most compelling because of their team, vision and the strategic opportunities for both our businesses.

“The investment will enable us to accelerate our growth in our core markets, build our data and distribution capabilities and expand our commercial teams in Europe and the US and of course continue to make the best fan culture football content.”

The Liberté Cup airs on ITV Player

The Liberté Cup airs on ITV Player

This month Copa90’s film of a refugee football tournament, The Liberté Cup, landed on UK broadcaster ITV’s online hub.  

The Liberté Cup was an 8 team football tournament held in September 2016 at the Grande-Synthe refugee camp near Dunkirk, France. The project saw football fans from across Europe compete with inhabitants of the camp - showcasing how the beautiful game can be used as a positive uniting force and changing the way refugees are perceived by the media. 

Copa90 collaborated with ITV to create a documentary of the tournament. The film gives insights into the living conditions of the camp, and tells the story of the refugees who took part in the competition, currently struggling to find a better future.

We created two films, one available worldwide on Copa90's channel, as well as a version for the ITV player which is currently exclusive in the UK. Links below:

Marc will be responsible for driving the growth and expansion of Copa90 across the Americas, leading all commercial activities, partnerships, content, audience growth, business strategy, product development and distribution.

Marc joins us after spending 10 years with ESPN Digital + Print Media, managing a wide range of digital businesses. In addition to overseeing revenue development for the media giant, he managed global partnerships, ESPN FC, direct-to-consumer products, business operations for ESPN The Magazine and his team built ESPN’s award-winning digital audio portfolio.

New groundbreaking research on young football fans from Copa90

Young football fans demand their football experience to be mobile and enjoy brand associations with the football content that they view as long as the branding is entertaining and not sales-based, according to groundbreaking new research from Copa90 in partnership with  Fuse Sport + Entertainment . The ‘Euro 2016 Fan Survey’ studied more than two thousand young football fans aged 13-24, with the data collected and analysed in summer 2016.  

Barry Flanigan, Chief Product Officer at Bigballs Media, said: “Young fans consume a huge amount of football content on social media like all fans, but what stands out is the huge importance of a mobile-first experience, alongside their heavy usage of messaging platforms. It’s the content beyond the 90 minutes that this audience cares about, not just the usual match news and stats. The fans don’t have a resistance to brands creating content for them that they love, just to those supplying more traditional, interruptive advertising that looks to sell and gets in their way.”

He added: “Gen Z football fans are big users of ad blockers but anything that is genuinely entertaining and resonates on a personal level, especially if fans can share it with others, appeals to them.”

Alongside our Chatbot and brand campaigns for Hyundai, Turkish Airlines, Coke and ITV, we've been busy covering the tournaments fan stories across Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat.
